RTTS Progression System Now Feels Like an RPG

One of the most transformative changes in MLB The Show 25’s Update 9 is the overhaumlb stubsl of the Road to the Show (RTTS) progression system. For the first time, it feels like the game is embracing the role-playing element of a sports career.

Gone is the rigid, limited archetype system that boxed players into specific molds. In its place is a perk crafting and progression tree that lets you tailor your player’s development. This change adds a level of personalization that the mode has desperately needed. Now, players can focus on creating a unique identity for their ballplayer, whether that means developing into a power-hitting first baseman, a speedster in center field, or a dual-threat pitcher.

Each attribute improves through in-game performance, training, and perk selection. There are also now “impact moments” within games—key plays that grant larger experience boosts if you come through in the clutch. These feel like mini-challenges and make each at-bat or defensive opportunity more meaningful.

You can also re-spec your build as your career develops. This means that if you start as a contact hitter and want to shift into a power role or improve your fielding, you’re not locked in. Flexibility is the name of the game, and it adds to the replayability significantly.

This update also introduces a morale and chemistry system. Teammate relationships and in-game decisions can now impact your progression and performance. If you constantly ignore cutoffs or miss situational plays, your teammates’ responses (and the manager’s trust) may change. It’s a subtle but meaningful addition that adds realism and accountability to your actions.

Overall, Update 9 transforms RTTS from a simple career simulator into something that feels like a dynamic, living world. It’s not just about stats and ratings anymore—it’s about building a career and navigating the challenges that come with it. If you’re someone who loves the journey as much as the destination, this is the most satisfying RTTS experience in years.
